During the early part of his reign, Ramses II tried to end Hittite control of Syria. About 1285 BC. He fought a battle against the Hittites at Kadesh and claimed a great victory. Few single battles in history have determined who the most powerful empire in the world was; the Battle of Kadesh was one. This is the earliest battle of which true military tactics are known. But about 1269 BC. Ramses made a treaty with the Hittite king, which divided Syria between them. This papyrus painting represents a scene of this battle with Ramses II seated in his chariot and he is ready to attack with his bow and arrow. Also you can see the horse’s several legs as a sign for fast and powerful attack.
